Tomorrow, May 3 during SRT, Walled Lake Central will host a College Signing event
for the ten student athletes who plan to pursue athletics at the college level. To
congratulate and support the athletes, their fellow varsity teammates are invited to
attend the event held in the auditorium.
“[We] thank [everyone] for all the support [they] give our student athletes,” said
Assistant Principal and Athletic Director, Mike Fray in a press release. The athletes
who will continue their passion for sports at the college level include Kaitlyn Farthing,
Bryan Maxwell, Nicholas Marsh, and Daniel Heyn in soccer; Ben Gjokaj and Alexander
Palafox in lacrosse; Cullen Prena and Josephine Jackson in track & field, Andrew Wood
in hockey, and Drew Miller in baseball.
“Being a college athlete takes hard work and dedication,” said Jordan Anderson, soccer
player at Concordia University and Walled Lake Central alumnus. “You have to be
prepared for workouts before classes and workouts after classes. I wouldn’t trade it for
the world.”
Farthing will attend Schoolcraft College for women’s soccer as will Heyn and Marsh to
play men’s soccer; Maxwell plans to go to Western Michigan University to play soccer;
Jackson will head to The University of Notre Dame to throw shot put and discus; Prena
will be going to the University of Oregon to throw shot put and discus; Miller will attend
Defiance College for baseball; Wood will be go on to the University of Utah to play
hockey; Palafox will be at Grand Valley State University to play lacrosse; and Gjokaj
has plans at The University of Detroit Mercy for lacrosse.
