When we think of summer, we think of happiness, fun and freedom, but on July 21, we were impacted with the loss of a life, that of senior Sean Collins. Playing a huge role in choir, drama and sports, Sean was a mischievously funny guy who never ceased to make those around him smile, always with a smile on his own face.
On September 28th, 2016, Hurricane Matthew formed near the Windward Islands. It left a path of destruction as it passed the Caribbean, then moved to the Southeast United States.
Seniors Elena Harroun, Miriam Tolston, and Brendan Whitworth are among 125 of the nation’s top band members to be selected by by the National Association of Music Education for inclusion in the U.S. Army All-American Marching Band. These seniors were honored during a special ceremony on September 25 in the auditorium, attended by family and friends.
On Saturday, September 24, 20 students from Garbsen, Germany arrived to Michigan to stay with WLC host families for two weeks.
Walled Lake Central students are used to “outs” for football and basketball games. Students can rock anything from a crazy Tropical Out to a simple Pink Out and still make the student section look amazing. On Friday, September 23, a different out, one that WLC had never seen before, took place in the student section: a Yellow Out.
The puck is about to be dropped on a season of change for Walled Lake Central Hockey. The first major change that has already began to take effect is the coaching staff. Science teacher and baseball coach Ken LaCross will be taking over for Coach Gary Quitiquit who has retired. Along with LaCross will be two assistant coaches who are in the process of being finalized. The two prospects for assistant are a WLC alumnus and a WLN alumnus who played in high school and after.
The Taste of the Lakes fundraiser took the Lakes area by storm on Tuesday, September 20 at Edgewood Country Club as over 15 restaurants joined forces to provide a strolling dinner to attendees and to raise money and awareness for the Lakes Area Youth Assistance (LAYA) program.

2016 has been a really good year for horror movies. With films like The Conjuring 2, Lights Out, and Don’t Breathe all receiving critical and financial success, many people were curious to see if Blair Witch would continue the trend or just fall into the large pile of terrible, unwanted horror sequels.
On September 16, the WLC football team not only faced city rivals, Walled Lake Western, on home turf at 7pm, but also sported pink because it was the annual Pink Out game.
