School dance goes down the hole

This year, the Winter Formal was shaping up to be a fun-filled night with lots of dancing and good times, but winter weather and dangerous driving conditions put an end to all of that as the dance was cancelled in the wake of a winter storm that had closed school the day before.

Having all three schools together is a new tradition started last year, when the Walled Lake Central Student Council realized that the Winter Formal was not garnering as much of a turnout as hoped. In response, the Council made the decision to attempt to combine the Winter Formal with Western and Northern, and the turnout was much greater. The thought of being able to combine with the other schools was expected to bring some excitement, and senior Ramya Ginjupalli said in advance of the dance, “I’m excited to reconnect with some old friends from middle school who went to Northern and Western.” This camaraderie was unfortunately squashed due to the snow, but the prospect of the dance nevertheless caused friends from different schools to come together on their own accord.

Much like with Homecoming, there were plenty of decisions to be made: what to wear, who to go with, what to eat before, and the works. Many girls had taken to borrowing dresses from one another and even from others. Rather than buying an all-new outfit to wear for the dance, Senior Clara Kissling borrowed a dress from her friend. “It was easier to borrow a dress, because I didn’t have to go through the stress of trying to find a dress that fit or that I liked enough,” said Kissling.

Unfortunately, students learned via Twitter on the morning of the dance, that, “The combined Winter Formal for WL Central, WL Northern & WL Western juniors and seniors is CANCELLED due to continued inclement weather. This event will be rescheduled!” Those who had bought tickets had the ability to be reimbursed for the ticket fee.
