Students prepare for annual volleyball tournament

By Emily Money

Get ready to “dig” in at Central’s annual Volleyball Marathon (VBM). Organized by Student Council, VBM will start at 7 pm, March 7, and students can be picked up at 5 am, March 8.

This year, the proceeds from VBM will go to support Walled Lake Schools’ Foundation for Excellence.

“[Foundation for Excellence] helps our local schools and teachers with supplies, technologies, and students for scholarships. We usually raise over $20,000 dollars each year [through the VBM],” said Student Council Vice President Heather Martin.

Money is raised through the sponsorship of student teams.  Students could sign up their teams for a donation of $60 each until February 24, and a donation of $75 until February 28.

Around 600-700 people are expected to attend this year. Students could sign up in teams of 6 to 10 people, but do not have to go with a team or even play volleyball.

“I want to emphasize that you do not have to be on a team this year to participate! You can come with another friend or even by yourself,” said Martin.

A wide range of activities will be available for everyone that attends.

“There are numerous activities, the most we’ve ever had! There is the volleyball tournament (of course), the pool is open with a huge screen movie playing, Zumba, laser tag, carnival games, henna tattoos, and inflatables such as obstacle courses and sumo suits. The entertainment is a hypnotist who is going to hypnotize students in the crowd! Plus much more,” stated Martin.

Dinner will be provided by Caya Smoke House Grille, as well as donations from Olive Garden, Happy’s Pizza, Caribou Coffee, and other snacks.

At 7:30 pm, the all-school talent show Central’s Got Talent will be held in the auditorium. Volleyball players can attend and even show off their skills in the talent show, and return to volleyball after.

Volleyball Marathon is sure to be a blast this year.   “There is so much to do besides volleyball so if you don’t want to play you don’t have to,” stated Martin. “There are a ton of activities for everyone’s wide range of interests, so please don’t miss out on this great opportunity to support our school and have fun with your friends! I am truly grateful for such an involved and participating school such as ours!”
