Four members of Central’s DECA club qualified for States based on their performance at a competition hosted by Lakeland High School on Saturday January 14.

Out of all the kids that attended this DECA competition, those from Central who qualified for States included: juniors Chris Hamama, Karl Tavadia, and Ben Shin and senior, Sevar Yaldo. States will be held March 10-12 at the Cobo Center in Detroit. Junior Chris Hamama qualified and said, “DECA was a fun and unique club and we’re excited to compete in states.”

DECA, formerly known as the Distributive Education Clubs of America, is a competitive activity for students interested in business and marketing. They role play different scenarios and formulate a plan to promote companies. To do well at DECA, one must come up with the greatest business plan for the situation given by the judges.

Senior Elena Dudash was put in a category she was not familiar with but still said, “DECA was overall a fun and beneficial experience.”
