As the snow begins to melt, spring sports teams start to form and begin their preparation for the 2017 spring season. Tryouts for all spring sports, start Monday March 13 and many athletes are excited to kick off their seasons. The spring sports include baseball, softball, women’s tennis, women’s and men’s track, men’s golf, women’s and men’s lacrosse, women’s soccer, and women’s water polo.
Sophomore Meghan Bolda, a new spring sports athlete who is planning on joining tennis, expressed her anticipation and hopes for the season. “I wanted to join tennis because a lot of my friends were doing it, and it sounded really fun. I’ve taken lessons and I’m so excited to get involved in the sport, stay active, and have fun in the nice weather,” Bolda said.
Spring sports also includes track and field, where each year a large amount of student athletes participate in. Senior Sam Barrett, who ran cross country in the fall, is enthusiastic about his coming track season. “I’m ready to start hanging out with teammates, making new friends, and staying in good shape,” Barrett said.
Josie O’Connell, a junior who plays lacrosse for the combined team with Western and Northern, is ready for her competitive season to begin. “I’m excited to dress up on game days and being able to bring out my competitive side during the games,” O’Connell said.
As the weather slowly starts to become warmer, the spring sports season is set to begin March 13. Teams will migrate outdoors to start practices and prepare for the upcoming games or meets. With all the excitement and anticipation from the players and coaches, it is doubtful we will be disappointed in our spring teams this 2017 season.
