Newsweek Ranks Central Among Top Schools in the Country

By Kennedy Werner

Newsweek magazine recently ranked Walled Lake Central High School as one
of America’s Best High Schools. Coming in at 341st in the nation, Central topped
in-town rivals Northern and Western, with its 98% graduation rate, 96% college
bound rate, and 22.3 average ACT score. Now THAT is something to be proud of!

“This is an important part of what brings exceptional students to our doors,
allows us to maintain an excellent staff, and celebrates what we do,” said
Principal Chuck Morgan in an email to the WLC community. “Every teacher works
diligently to educate all of our students, AP teachers are dedicated to provide
the best instruction for AP success, our admin, counseling and support staff work
assiduously to provide the best support and environment for learning. I am truly
blessed to work at Walled Lake Central.”

Newsweek magazine ranks the top 2,000 public high schools in North America,
each year, based on the following guidelines: college acceptance rate, graduation
rate, avg. AP tests taken, avg. SAT/ACT scores, avg. AP test scores, and enrollment
percentage of AP courses.

What an immense accomplishment; way to go Central!
