NHS to Hold Inductions June 4

By Kennedy Werner

Calling all National Honor Society (NHS) applicants for the 2013-14 school year:
Tuesday, June 4 from 6:00-7:30 pm, Sponsor Traci Banjanin and the NHS Board
will hold the annual Induction Ceremony in the WLC Auditorium to swear in NHS
members. This is the final step for the selected juniors and seniors who submitted
applications back in April.

“I’m really eager to be a part of NHS,” said upcoming junior Miles Hoy. “Applying
for it was one thing, but getting in is a way better story. I am hoping to volunteer often
and go to the extra mile for our community.”

As NHS members, students are expected to attend NHS monthly meetings, participate
in service projects, lead and serve the community, and volunteer four hours per month
after-school.

Here at WLC, National Honors Society hosts and helps with many specific, local
events: Pedersen Dodge Ball fundraiser, Rebuilding Together, Relay for Life, the
spring clean-up of an adopted road, weekly Drop-In tutoring, and Teacher Aide
Brigade.

Being a part of the prestigious club comes with lots of responsibly, but also is only
given to those who have proved they can play the part. To be a NHS member, juniors
must have a cumulative GPA of 3.90 and seniors must have a 3.50. In addition,
students must have less than 10% overall absenteeism, sustain good character, obtain
a letter of recommendation, and be involved with extra-curricular, school activities.

Founded in 1921, the National Honor Society is a nation-wide service organization
providing ways for volunteer services to be delivered to the school community. All
across America, NHS promotes time, energy, and talent to benefit a high school’s
community.
