WLC varsity baseball (3-1) boldly defeated Orchard Lake St. Mary’s (7-3) Monday, April 14 at St. Mary’s. The 70 degree game day brought Central, thirteenth in Oakland County, a 12-10 victory against the sixth best team in Oakland County.
“Yesterday’s game was a marquee matchup with two of the better programs around in the area,” said Head Coach Michael Roffi, “For us to play well and come out victory felt really good for my players and the program. We have so much respect for the coaches and the players at OLSM that it is always a challenge against them.”
Junior center fielder and pitcher Colin Gottschalk went 4 for 4 with two RBIs and junior Jay Boman went 3 for 4 with two RBIs. Central had many sacrificial bunts and clutch hits to move runners into the scoring position. This led Central to have 15 hits total.
“We started to become more aggressive at the plate with hits,” said Gottschalk, who batted first in the game, “We had some big time hits when we needed them and our defense and pitching was pretty good.”
Central’s next game is home on Wednesday, April 16 against Kettering.
“I want my team to improve each and every game and compete with the best programs around. Our goal is to be playing our best ball when it comes time to play the district state tournament,” said Roffi.
“We should win the game on Wednesday. Come support so we can have a big crowd!” said Gottschalk.
