The first ever at WLC Gay-Straight Alliance club meeting was held on Friday, May 16 in room D208. The new club is sponsored by band teacher David Rogers.
“The purpose of this club is to support and educate about the gay community. It’s so that the gay kids can have a safe place to come to when they have no place to go, “said senior Tricia Hartsell, who started the club.
“I started the club when Mr. Rogers came up to me and said he was concerned about his students’ well-being. I thought it would be a great idea,” said Hartsell.
At the first meeting, every club member got a chance to tell their story and why they decided to join the club. Everyone in this club is made to feel welcome and comfortable with each other.
“I joined to find support and to help others,” said senior Max Granitz
From the stories told, it seems that Hartsell has a great impact on her club members.
“I think that she’s doing a good job so far and it’s amazing that she’s taking the time to do this,” said Granitz.
Everyone is welcome to join. All meetings usually are on Fridays from 2:30- 3:30 in D208.
