Giving Tree delivers food to Detroit’s homeless

By Erykah Smith

For the second year, The Giving Tree from Walled Lake Central went to volunteer at the PB&J Outreach in Detroit, Michigan.

The kids and teachers got a chance to all wake up at 5 am on a Saturday morning and make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for a great cause.

This year many more kids volunteered for the PB&J Outreach, which is a small “organization” that goes out every Saturday to pass out food such as PB&Js, tuna sandwiches, donuts, and coffee to Detroit’s homeless.

“It was a humbling experience,” said The Giving Tree’s co president senior Hayley Tibbenham. I need to do this at least once a month!”

This was the first of many different ways that The Giving Tree plans to give back to the community and those in need this school year.
