This year’s College Night, an interactive event involving all three Walled Lake district high schools, is approaching fast. College Night this year is planned to be on March 22, 2017.
For the first time ever, the Walled Lake Counseling departments at each high school, decided to have Central host the fair, on behalf of all three schools.“The College Fair and More is a Walled Lake Schools collaborative event hosted at Walled Lake Central by all three high schools,” said Walled Lake Central’s Career Development Facilitator Michelle Maye-Abele.
This collaborative event sponsored by the counseling departments at all three Walled Lake high schools is coming up fast. Maye-Abele said,”It’s our hope to make this a yearly event for our families and surrounding districts. We believe by providing these opportunities we are reflecting the mission of positive customer service and providing for “Every Child, Every Day.”
College Night is for sophomores, juniors, and seniors to get some minimal information about some of the colleges that they may have in mind for their future. Colleges from all across the country send out representatives to speak on their behalf. Some of these colleges include: Michigan State University, Northern Michigan University, Siena Heights University, Davenport University, University of Michigan-Dearborn, Central Michigan University, University of Toledo, University of Detroit Mercy, Schoolcraft College, Hope College, Alma College, Adrian College and many more. Along with the colleges attending will also be the U.S. Navy, United States Marine Corps, and the Motion Picture Institute.
This time around, Walled Lake officials are really trying to reach out to as many sophomores and juniors as possible. “This year, I’m going to start looking for colleges and I think the fair is a really good way to start getting information,” said sophomore Emily Hudson.
