After a lot of consideration, senior Lauren Wasiak committed to play soccer at Lawrence Technological University in mid-October. She decided on Lawrence Tech because it offers her the best of both worlds: a school that is close to home and that allows her to do what she loves.
“I love the atmosphere and the look of the campus, and it’s close to my family so I can visit my nephew any time. I’m looking forward to moving on with my life and getting the opportunity to truly grow as an individual,” said Wasiak.
Wasiak has played soccer for a long time, so it only made sense for her to join the WLC soccer program as well. She played from her freshman to her senior year and soon, colleges began to recognize her. She not only got an offer from Lawrence Technological University in Southfield, Michigan, but she was offered by Indiana Institute of Technology in Fort Wayne, Indiana, as well.
Although Lauren has had about seven coaches over the past eight years, Coach Joel Sharpe has been her mentor all throughout high school. “I think Lauren will bring a ton of talent and speed but most of all competitiveness. It’s been fun to watch her, she’s an exciting player to watch. I will miss her dancing the most as well as her goal scoring,” said Sharpe.
Lauren’s boyfriend, senior Brendan Whitworth, said that he is proud of Lauren and shared what he thinks she will bring to the team. “She has made the decision soon, but with much thought. I think she will bring a positive attitude to the team, no matter the circumstances,” says Whitworth.
